Plan a UK-family-friendly trip — opening hours, headline rides, deals and a 1-day itinerary.

Anaheim, California, USA

Walt's original — Disneyland Park plus Disney California Adventure on a compact, walkable site.

Walt's original — Disneyland Park (1955) and the adjoining Disney California Adventure on a single walkable site in Anaheim. Three days is enough for a thorough trip; combine with two days in LA for a great UK family week.

Park guide

Everything you need to make the day work.

What to expect

Disneyland Park is the most immersive Magic Kingdom in the world — three Mountains, Galaxy's Edge, the original Pirates of the Caribbean. California Adventure pairs Cars Land, Avengers Campus and Pixar Pier with the Incredicoaster and a winery-style food festival every spring.

Plan your day

Day 1: Disneyland Park, rope-drop Rise of the Resistance with Lightning Lane Single Pass. Day 2: California Adventure, hit Radiator Springs Racers as you walk in. Day 3: split with Park Hopper — favourites + nighttime show whichever park is showing 'World of Color'.

Tickets & passes

Buy direct from Disneyland.com (Anaheim has no UK reseller advantage, unlike Florida). Park Hopper is worth it from day 2 onwards — both gates face each other across the esplanade.

A rough plan based on typical hours and queue patterns — actual times will vary.

How to get there

By car, train or bus — and where to park.

1313 Disneyland Drive, Anaheim, CA 92802, USA

By car

About 45 minutes from LAX in light traffic — but plan 90 mins each way at peak. Self-park USD$35/day; on-site hotels offer valet only.

By train

Amtrak / Metrolink to Anaheim ARTIC, then a 10-min ART shuttle to the resort gates.

By bus

Karmel Shuttle and Disneyland Resort Express run direct from LAX (USD$48 return per adult). Uber/Lyft drop you at a dedicated rideshare point opposite the entrance.

What to bring

Pack list from people who've actually done this park.

Pack list

  • Passports valid 6+ months and any required visa / ESTA / ETIAS authorisation
  • Fee-free travel card (Chase, Starling or similar) for low FX fees on tickets and food
  • Refillable water bottle — most parks have free refill stations
  • Suncream, UV lip balm and a small fold-up rain poncho for water rides
  • Comfortable broken-in trainers — expect 20,000+ steps per park day
  • US plug adapters
  • A light jacket — California desert evenings drop to 12°C even in summer

Insider tips

Things you'd only know on a second visit.

  1. 1

The 'Magic Key' annual pass is sold to overseas guests when available — for trips of 5+ days the cheapest tier pays for itself.

  2. 2

Single-rider on Radiator Springs Racers, Indiana Jones, Matterhorn and Incredicoaster is the fastest free queue in either park.

  3. 3

Walk the back path through New Orleans Square at park-open to beat the Galaxy's Edge crowd to Rise of the Resistance.
