The arrival of a major new rollercoaster at Europa Park is always a significant event in the theme park calendar. The family-run German park has a formidable reputation for delivering world-class attractions, wrapped in elaborate and immersive theming. With the opening of its new Croatia-themed area, the park has unveiled its most ambitious coaster to date: Voltron Nevera, a multi-launch ride from MACK Rides that promises a truly electric experience. We were there within 48 hours of its grand opening to deliver our verdict.
The ride is the stunning centrepiece of the park’s first new country-themed area in twelve years. The attention to detail is, as expected from Europa Park, exceptional. The coaster’s distinctive track winds through a landscape of limestone-style rockwork and waterfalls, with a station themed around Nikola Tesla’s experimental energy transmission experiments. The narrative, which casts riders as participants in a transfer of cosmic energy, is a creative wrapper for what is, at its heart, a pure thrill machine.
The experience begins inside the atmospheric station, a repurposed hydroelectric plant where Tesla’s tower hums with energy. The first surprise is a small but effective launch section in complete darkness, right out of the station. It’s a gentle introduction before the train slowly manoeuvres onto the main launch track. Here, the ride pauses, building anticipation before unleashing its full force. The primary launch is ferociously fast, accelerating riders to a top speed of 75 mph in a breathtaking surge of power. This isn't just a launch; it's a statement of intent.
From there, Voltron delivers a relentless and varied sequence of elements. The ride boasts a total of seven inversions, but it’s the variety and pacing of these moments that truly impress. The layout is a tightly wound knot of steel, with a mix of forceful turns, sharp airtime hills, and disorienting twists. One moment you are soaring through a graceful Immelmann loop, the next you are being whipped through a rapid-fire series of corkscrews. The coaster maintains its speed exceptionally well, with each element flowing seamlessly into the next. There is no moment to catch your breath; it’s a constant barrage of forces from start to finish.
A key highlight is the ride’s signature element: a launch that propels the train more than 100 feet straight up, only to fall backwards into a final, airtime-filled slalom back towards the station. It is a unique and disorienting manoeuvre that provides a spectacular finale. The combination of multiple launches, seven inversions, and moments of intense ejector airtime makes for an incredibly satisfying and complete coaster experience.
So, where does Voltron Nevera stand in the competitive landscape of European rollercoasters? It is, without question, a top-tier attraction and a brilliant addition to Europa Park’s already stellar lineup. It combines the raw power of a launch coaster with the intricate and twisted layout of a more traditional ride. While some coasters focus purely on height or speed, Voltron’s strength lies in its sheer variety and relentless pacing. It’s an intense, world-class ride that will leave even the most seasoned thrill-seekers impressed. It’s not just a new coaster; it's a contender for one of the very best in Europe.
